Zündapp was an important German motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1917 in Nuremberg by Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG and also the machine tool manufacturer Thiel underneath the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau H. m. b. H. " as a producer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau is actually German for Igniter and also Apparatus). In 1919, as the demand with regard to weapons parts declined soon after WWI, Neumeyer became the sole proprietor from the company, and two years later he diversified to the construction of motorcycles.Following WWII, Zündapp expanded into the actual microcar, moped and Scooter (street bike) markets. The company collapsed throughout 1984.Zuendap. biz markets markets bi-cycle and electric bicycles with all the Zundapp name and logo design. while Zuendapp.com markets "enduro-sport" motorcycles under the Zundapp brand.

The first Zündapp motorcycle was your model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle with regard to everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was stated in large series. Zündapp's history of hefty motorcycles began in 1933 while using the K-series. The "K" refers to the kind of drivetrain that these types used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft having two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then a novelty). The series encompassed models from 200 to eight hundred cc displacement and was an important success, increasing Zündapp's market reveal in Germany from 5% inside 1931 to 18% inside 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 h . p . (21 kW) flat in a trench opposed twin cylinder engine with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often as well as a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Start no. 1) sidecar system was produced between 1938 along with 1941 and supplied exclusively for the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and in the end replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was to be the only remnant to call home beyond the destruction regarding war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production from the late 1940s, it chose to reuse the KS600's motor for you to power the KS601 using few modifications. The Zündapp K800 experienced unit construction, flat-four engines with canal drive (a format adopted by Honda with the Gold Wing in 1974) and were the only 4-cylinder machines used by the German armed forces within WWII.

Coming from 1931 Ferdinand Porsche and Zündapp developed the prototype Vehicle für Jedermann ("car with regard to everyone"), which was the first-time the name Volkswagen had been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder toned engine, but Zündapp used any water-cooled 5-cylinder radial engine. In 1932 three prototypes were being running. All three cars were lost through the war, the last in a 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp generated the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp that has a foot gear change, and 170 examples have been built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced a lot more than 18, 000 units of the Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit using a driven side wheel and a locking differential, supplied to the In german Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines such as 9-092, which was used inside light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) stomach initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII the business transitioned to smaller equipment, notably the "Bella" generator scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine to its type. In 1951 Zündapp released the final of its heavy street motorcycle models, but one of its most well-known: the KS601 (your "green elephant") having a 598 cc two-cylinder powerplant. From 1957 to 1958 the company also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the firm moved from Nuremberg in order to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed numerous new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines in support of produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some achievements in motorsports with driver André Malherbe winning the actual 125cc European motocross titles in 1973 and yet again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds marketed well, but later sales diminished and in 1984 the corporation went bankrupt and shut down.

Following bankruptcy, the entire production collection and intellectual properties had been bought by Xunda Motor Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bikes from 1987 till early 1990s. Zündapp is still in operation, but makes Honda centered 4-stroke motorcycles and electric mopeds.Zündapp also had a new technical collaboration with Regal Enfield (India) to build mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory had been built at Ranipet near Chennai from the early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Bullet. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus plus the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (depending on Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle.
