This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle with regard to everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was produced in large series. Zündapp's history of hefty motorcycles began in 1933 while using K-series. The "K" refers to the type of drivetrain that these versions used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft using two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then a novelty). The series encompassed types from 200 to 800 cc displacement and was a serious success, increasing Zündapp's market reveal in Germany from 5% inside 1931 to 18% inside 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hp (21 kW) width wise opposed twin cylinder generator with overhead valves displacing 597 closed circuit (36. 4 cu in). While the KS600 was discontinued and finally replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was to get the only remnant to live beyond the destruction of war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production inside the late 1940s, it chose to recycle the KS600's motor to power the KS601 along with few modifications. The Zündapp K800 got unit construction, flat-four engines with the whole length drive (a format adopted by Honda with the Gold Wing in 1974) and were the only 4-cylinder machines used with the German armed forces inside WWII.

Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder ripped engine, but Zündapp used some sort of water-cooled 5-cylinder radial serp. In 1932 three prototypes have been running. All three cars were lost over the war, the last in any 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp created the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp which has a foot gear change, and 170 examples had been built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced more than 18, 000 units of this Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit which has a driven side wheel and also a locking differential, supplied to the German born Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines like 9-092, which was used within light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) stomach initio trainer aircraft.

Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds marketed well, but later sales decreased and in 1984 the corporation went bankrupt and sealed.

Following the bankruptcy, the entire production series and intellectual properties has been bought by Xunda Generator Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp motorcycles from 1987 till the early 1990s. Zündapp is still operational, but makes Honda centered 4-stroke motorcycles and electric mopeds.Zündapp also had any technical collaboration with Regal Enfield (India) to develop mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory ended up being built at Ranipet near Chennai inside early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Bullet. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus plus the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle.
