Zündapp was a significant German motorcycle manufacturer started in 1917 in Nuremberg by Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG plus the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Gary the gadget guy. m. b. H. " as a company of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau can be German for Igniter as well as Apparatus). In 1919, as the demand regarding weapons parts declined right after WWI, Neumeyer became the sole proprietor from the company, and two years later he diversified in the construction of motorcycles.Following WWII, Zündapp expanded into the actual microcar, moped and Scooter (motorcycle) markets. The company collapsed in 1984.Zuendap. biz markets markets bicycle and electric bicycles while using the Zundapp name and logo design. while Zuendapp.com markets "enduro-sport" motorcycles under the Zundapp brand.

The first Zündapp motorcycle was this model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle for everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was produced in large series. Zündapp's history of heavy motorcycles began in 1933 with all the K-series. The "K" refers to the sort of drivetrain that these models used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft using two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then the novelty). The series encompassed types from 200 to 400 cc displacement and was a serious success, increasing Zündapp's market discuss in Germany from 5% inside 1931 to 18% within 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hp (21 kW) horizontally opposed twin cylinder generator with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often in addition to a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Footwear no. 1) sidecar system was produced between 1938 as well as 1941 and supplied exclusively towards Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and eventually replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was being the only remnant to reside in beyond the destruction associated with war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production in the late 1940s, it chose to recycling the KS600's motor in order to power the KS601 with few modifications. The Zündapp K800 experienced unit construction, flat-four engines with canal drive (a format adopted by Honda for the Gold Wing in 1974) and were the only 4-cylinder machines used from the German armed forces throughout WWII.

From 1931 Ferdinand Porsche along with Zündapp developed the prototype Automotive für Jedermann ("car for everyone"), which was the first-time the name Volkswagen had been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder level engine, but Zündapp used any water-cooled 5-cylinder radial powerplant. In 1932 three prototypes had been running. All three cars were lost throughout the war, the last in any 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp developed the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp that has a foot gear change, and 170 examples have been built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced in excess of 18, 000 units of the actual Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit with a driven side wheel and a locking differential, supplied to the In german Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines including the 9-092, which was used in light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) abdominal initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII this company transitioned to smaller devices, notably the "Bella" electric motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine to its type. In 1951 Zündapp released one more of its heavy street motorcycle models, but one of its most well-known: the KS601 (the particular "green elephant") which has a 598 cc two-cylinder serp. From 1957 to 1958 the company also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the business moved from Nuremberg for you to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed several new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines in support of produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some success in motorsports with riders André Malherbe winning your 125cc European motocross championships in 1973 and again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds offered well, but later sales rejected and in 1984 the organization went bankrupt and shut down.

Following the bankruptcy, the entire production series and intellectual properties ended up being bought by Xunda Motor Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp cycles from 1987 till early 1990s. Zündapp is still running a business, but makes Honda based 4-stroke motorcycles and electric powered mopeds.Zündapp also had the technical collaboration with Royal Enfield (India) to develop mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory has been built at Ranipet near Chennai inside early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and also the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (based on Zündapp KS175) was introduced like a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake plus a sleeveless hard chromed cylinder barrel, all were a first using a motorcycle in that nation.
