Zündapp was an essential German motorcycle manufacturer launched in 1917 in Nuremberg by means of Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG as well as the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Gary. m. b. H. " as a developer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau can be German for Igniter in addition to Apparatus). In 1919, as the demand for weapons parts declined soon after WWI, Neumeyer became the sole proprietor on the company, and two years later he diversified in to the construction of motorcycles.Following WWII, Zündapp expanded into the actual microcar, moped and Scooter (street motorcycle) markets. The company collapsed within 1984.Zuendap. biz markets markets bike and electric bicycles with all the Zundapp name and emblem. while Zuendapp.com markets "enduro-sport" motorcycles under the Zundapp brand.

The 1st Zündapp motorcycle was the model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle pertaining to everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was manufactured in large series. Zündapp's history of heavy motorcycles began in 1933 while using the K-series. The "K" refers to any type of drivetrain that these designs used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft together with two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (a novelty). The series encompassed versions from 200 to 300 cc displacement and was an important success, increasing Zündapp's market reveal in Germany from 5% within 1931 to 18% throughout 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hewlett packard (21 kW) width wise opposed twin cylinder motor with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often in addition to a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Trunk no. 1) sidecar human body was produced between 1938 as well as 1941 and supplied exclusively for the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and in the end replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was being the only remnant to live beyond the destruction associated with war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production from the late 1940s, it chose to reuse the KS600's motor to power the KS601 with few modifications. The Zündapp K800 received unit construction, flat-four engines with the whole length drive (a layout adopted by Honda to the Gold Wing in 1974) and were the one 4-cylinder machines used through the German armed forces inside WWII.

By 1931 Ferdinand Porsche in addition to Zündapp developed the prototype Vehicle für Jedermann ("car for everyone"), which was the first time the name Volkswagen seemed to be used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder level engine, but Zündapp used some sort of water-cooled 5-cylinder radial powerplant. In 1932 three prototypes ended up running. All three cars were lost over the war, the last in a 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp made the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp having a foot gear change, and 170 examples had been built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced over 18, 000 units of the Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit having a driven side wheel and a locking differential, supplied to the The german language Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines such as 9-092, which was used with light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) abs initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII this company transitioned to smaller products, notably the "Bella" motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine for the type. In 1951 Zündapp released one more of its heavy street motorcycle models, but one of its most well-known: the KS601 (the actual "green elephant") that has a 598 cc two-cylinder powerplant. From 1957 to 1958 this company also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the organization moved from Nuremberg to help Munich. Subsequently, the company developed many new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines in support of produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some accomplishment in motorsports with riders André Malherbe winning the particular 125cc European motocross titles in 1973 and once again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds marketed well, but later sales decreased and in 1984 the corporation went bankrupt and closed.

As soon as the bankruptcy, the entire production range and intellectual properties ended up being bought by Xunda Electric motor Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp motorbikes from 1987 till the first 1990s. Zündapp is still in business, but makes Honda centered 4-stroke motorcycles and energy mopeds.Zündapp also had any technical collaboration with Regal Enfield (India) to make mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory had been built at Ranipet near Chennai inside the early 1980s to make small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Round. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus as well as the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (depending on Zündapp KS175) was introduced as being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake along with a sleeveless hard chromed canister barrel, all were a first using a motorcycle in that country.
