The initial Zündapp motorcycle was the actual model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle with regard to everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was produced in large series. Zündapp's history of major motorcycles began in 1933 while using K-series. The "K" refers to the sort of drivetrain that these types used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft along with two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then a novelty). The series encompassed models from 200 to 400 cc displacement and was an essential success, increasing Zündapp's market talk about in Germany from 5% inside 1931 to 18% throughout 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hp (21 kW) width wise opposed twin cylinder generator with overhead valves displacing 597 closed circuit (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often as well as a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Boot no. 1) sidecar physique was produced between 1938 in addition to 1941 and supplied exclusively for the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and at last replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was for being the only remnant to reside beyond the destruction of war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production inside late 1940s, it chose to recycle the KS600's motor to be able to power the KS601 along with few modifications. The Zündapp K800 got unit construction, flat-four engines with shaft drive (a structure adopted by Honda for the Gold Wing in 1974) and were really the only 4-cylinder machines used with the German armed forces with WWII.

By 1931 Ferdinand Porsche in addition to Zündapp developed the prototype Vehicle für Jedermann ("car with regard to everyone"), which was the first-time the name Volkswagen was used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder toned engine, but Zündapp used the water-cooled 5-cylinder radial serps. In 1932 three prototypes were being running. All three cars were lost through the war, the last in a 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp developed the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp which has a foot gear change, and 170 examples were built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced greater than 18, 000 units of the actual Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit having a driven side wheel and a locking differential, supplied to the German born Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines including the 9-092, which was used in light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) abs initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII this company transitioned to smaller models, notably the "Bella" generator scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine for its type. In 1951 Zündapp released the final of its heavy street bike models, but one of its most well-known: the KS601 (this "green elephant") that has a 598 cc two-cylinder motor. From 1957 to 1958 the organization also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the organization moved from Nuremberg for you to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed a number of new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some good results in motorsports with driver André Malherbe winning the actual 125cc European motocross competition in 1973 and once again in 1974. Zündapp is still running a business, but makes Honda centered 4-stroke motorcycles and electrical mopeds.Zündapp also had a new technical collaboration with Royal Enfield (India) to create mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory has been built at Ranipet near Chennai within the early 1980s to produce small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus as well as the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (according to Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake and a sleeveless hard chromed canister barrel, all were a first using a motorcycle in that country.
