Zündapp was a significant German motorcycle manufacturer created in 1917 in Nuremberg by simply Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG along with the machine tool manufacturer Thiel within the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau G. m. b. H. " as a company of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau will be German for Igniter as well as Apparatus). The first Zündapp motorcycle was the model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle intended for everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was stated in large series. Coming from 1931 Ferdinand Porsche along with Zündapp developed the prototype Automobile für Jedermann ("car with regard to everyone"), which was the very first time that the name Volkswagen was used.
