Zündapp was a major German motorcycle manufacturer created in 1917 in Nuremberg by simply Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG and the machine tool manufacturer Thiel within the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau G. m. b. H. " as a maker of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau can be German for Igniter along with Apparatus). In 1919, as the demand pertaining to weapons parts declined soon after WWI, Neumeyer became the sole proprietor on the company, and two years later he diversified into your construction of motorcycles.Following WWII, Zündapp expanded into the actual microcar, moped and Scooter (street motorcycle) markets. The company collapsed within 1984.Zuendap. biz markets markets bicycle and electric bicycles using the Zundapp name and company logo. while Zuendapp.com markets "enduro-sport" motorcycles under the Zundapp brand.

The primary Zündapp motorcycle was the actual model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle intended for everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was manufactured in large series. Zündapp's history of hefty motorcycles began in 1933 with all the K-series. The "K" refers to the type of drivetrain that these designs used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft using two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (a novelty). The series encompassed products from 200 to 300 cc displacement and was an essential success, increasing Zündapp's market share in Germany from 5% throughout 1931 to 18% inside 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 h . p . (21 kW) flat in a trench opposed twin cylinder powerplant with overhead valves displacing 597 closed circuit (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often in addition to a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Start no. 1) sidecar entire body was produced between 1938 and 1941 and supplied exclusively to the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and ultimately replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was being the only remnant to live beyond the destruction connected with war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production inside the late 1940s, it chose to recycle the KS600's motor to power the KS601 along with few modifications. The Zündapp K800 received unit construction, flat-four engines with canal drive (a format adopted by Honda for that Gold Wing in 1974) and were the only 4-cylinder machines used through the German armed forces within WWII.

From 1931 Ferdinand Porsche in addition to Zündapp developed the prototype Car für Jedermann ("car with regard to everyone"), which was the first time the name Volkswagen had been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder toned engine, but Zündapp used a water-cooled 5-cylinder radial motor. In 1932 three prototypes were running. All three cars were lost over the war, the last in any 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp produced the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp with a foot gear change, and 170 examples have been built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced greater than 18, 000 units of this Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit with a driven side wheel plus a locking differential, supplied to the In german Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines including the 9-092, which was used within light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) stomach initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII the corporation transitioned to smaller models, notably the "Bella" motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine because of its type. In 1951 Zündapp released one more of its heavy street motorcycle models, but one of its most well-known: the KS601 (your "green elephant") having a 598 cc two-cylinder powerplant. From 1957 to 1958 the corporation also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the organization moved from Nuremberg in order to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed several new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some achievement in motorsports with rider André Malherbe winning the 125cc European motocross competition in 1973 and once more in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds sold well, but later sales declined and in 1984 the business went bankrupt and sealed.

Following your bankruptcy, the entire production collection and intellectual properties seemed to be bought by Xunda Motor Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bicycles from 1987 till earlier 1990s. Zündapp is still in business, but makes Honda dependent 4-stroke motorcycles and electrical mopeds.Zündapp also had any technical collaboration with Noble Enfield (India) to create mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory seemed to be built at Ranipet near Chennai from the early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus as well as the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (according to Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake as well as a sleeveless hard chromed storage container barrel, all were a first over a motorcycle in that region.
