Zündapp was an important German motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1917 in Nuremberg by means of Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG as well as the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Grams. m. b. H. " as a manufacturer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau will be German for Igniter in addition to Apparatus). After the bankruptcy, the entire production range and intellectual properties seemed to be bought by Xunda Powerplant Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bikes from 1987 till their early 1990s. Zündapp is still operating, but makes Honda structured 4-stroke motorcycles and electrical mopeds.Zündapp also had some sort of technical collaboration with Royal Enfield (India) to make mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory was built at Ranipet near Chennai from the early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Round. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus as well as the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (based on Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake and also a sleeveless hard chromed canister barrel, all were a first using a motorcycle in that region.
