The very first Zündapp motorcycle was the actual model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle for everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was manufactured in large series. By 1931 Ferdinand Porsche and Zündapp developed the prototype Automobile für Jedermann ("car with regard to everyone"), which was the first time the name Volkswagen had been used. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake along with a sleeveless hard chromed storage container barrel, all were a first with a motorcycle in that nation.
