Zündapp was an important German motorcycle manufacturer set up in 1917 in Nuremberg by Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG as well as the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath name "Zünder- und Apparatebau G. m. b. H. " as a developer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau can be German for Igniter along with Apparatus). The initial Zündapp motorcycle was the actual model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle intended for everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was produced in large series. Zündapp's history of weighty motorcycles began in 1933 with all the K-series. The "K" refers to any type of drivetrain that these designs used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft with two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (a novelty). The series encompassed models from 200 to 900 cc displacement and was a significant success, increasing Zündapp's market reveal in Germany from 5% within 1931 to 18% inside 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 h . p . From 1931 Ferdinand Porsche along with Zündapp developed the prototype Car für Jedermann ("car intended for everyone"), which was the first-time the name Volkswagen has been used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder ripped engine, but Zündapp used the water-cooled 5-cylinder radial motor. In 1932 three prototypes were running. All three cars were lost during the war, the last in any 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid.From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp generated the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp that has a foot gear change, and 170 examples were built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced greater than 18, 000 units of the actual Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit with a driven side wheel and a locking differential, supplied to the German born Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines such as the 9-092, which was used within light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) stomach initio trainer aircraft.
After WWII this company transitioned to smaller models, notably the "Bella" engine scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine to its type. In 1951 Zündapp released the last of its heavy motorcycle models, but one of its most well-known: the KS601 (the particular "green elephant") that has a 598 cc two-cylinder serp. From 1957 to 1958 the company also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar.In 1958 the organization moved from Nuremberg to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed numerous new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some achievements in motorsports with participant André Malherbe winning the 125cc European motocross competition in 1973 and yet again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds sold well, but later sales decreased and in 1984 the business went bankrupt and sealed.

Following your bankruptcy, the entire production brand and intellectual properties seemed to be bought by Xunda Electric motor Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bikes from 1987 till the early 1990s. Zündapp is still in operation, but makes Honda based 4-stroke motorcycles and electric mopeds.Zündapp also had some sort of technical collaboration with Royal Enfield (India) to make mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory has been built at Ranipet near Chennai inside early 1980s to production small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus as well as the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (determined by Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake and a sleeveless hard chromed cyndrical tube barrel, all were a first over a motorcycle in that state.
