Zündapp was a serious German motorcycle manufacturer set up in 1917 in Nuremberg by means of Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG plus the machine tool manufacturer Thiel within the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Gary the gadget guy. m. b. H. " as a company of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau is usually German for Igniter as well as Apparatus). In 1919, as the demand regarding weapons parts declined soon after WWI, Neumeyer became the sole proprietor in the company, and two years later he diversified in the construction of motorcycles.Following WWII, Zündapp expanded into the microcar, moped and Scooter (motorbike) markets. The company collapsed in 1984.Zuendap. biz markets markets pedal bike and electric bicycles while using the Zundapp name and emblem. while Zuendapp.com markets "enduro-sport" motorcycles under the Zundapp brand.

The very first Zündapp motorcycle was this model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle for everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was stated in large series. Zündapp's history of hefty motorcycles began in 1933 while using K-series. The "K" refers to the type of drivetrain that these versions used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft having two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (a novelty). The series encompassed models from 200 to 900 cc displacement and was a significant success, increasing Zündapp's market share in Germany from 5% within 1931 to 18% throughout 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hp (21 kW) width wise opposed twin cylinder generator with overhead valves displacing 597 closed circuit (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often along with a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Trunk no. 1) sidecar physique was produced between 1938 as well as 1941 and supplied exclusively to the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and finally replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was being the only remnant to reside in beyond the destruction associated with war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production inside late 1940s, it chose to reuse the KS600's motor to help power the KS601 using few modifications. The Zündapp K800 received unit construction, flat-four engines with the whole length drive (a layout adopted by Honda with the Gold Wing in 1974) and were the only real 4-cylinder machines used through the German armed forces throughout WWII.

Coming from 1931 Ferdinand Porsche along with Zündapp developed the prototype Vehicle für Jedermann ("car regarding everyone"), which was the very first time that the name Volkswagen seemed to be used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder toned engine, but Zündapp used a water-cooled 5-cylinder radial serps. In 1932 three prototypes ended up running. All three cars were lost during the war, the last in a 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp developed the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp with a foot gear change, and 170 examples ended up built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced over 18, 000 units of this Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit that has a driven side wheel and a locking differential, supplied to the German Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines such as 9-092, which was used within light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) ab initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII the organization transitioned to smaller products, notably the "Bella" engine scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine to its type. In 1951 Zündapp released the last of its heavy street motorcycle models, but one of its most famous: the KS601 (the particular "green elephant") that has a 598 cc two-cylinder serp. From 1957 to 1958 the corporation also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the corporation moved from Nuremberg to help Munich. Subsequently, the company developed numerous new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines in support of produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some achievements in motorsports with participant André Malherbe winning your 125cc European motocross titles in 1973 and once again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds sold well, but later sales diminished and in 1984 the business went bankrupt and closed.

After the bankruptcy, the entire production series and intellectual properties seemed to be bought by Xunda Engine Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bikes from 1987 till their early 1990s. Zündapp is still in business, but makes Honda primarily based 4-stroke motorcycles and power mopeds.Zündapp also had a technical collaboration with Royal Enfield (India) to construct mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory had been built at Ranipet near Chennai within the early 1980s to produce small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Round. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and also the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (depending on Zündapp KS175) was introduced as being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake along with a sleeveless hard chromed storage container barrel, all were a first on a motorcycle in that country.
