Zündapp's history of weighty motorcycles began in 1933 while using K-series. The "K" refers to any type of drivetrain that these models used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft with two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then the novelty). The series encompassed products from 200 to 900 cc displacement and was a serious success, increasing Zündapp's market reveal in Germany from 5% throughout 1931 to 18% inside 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 h . p . (21 kW) flat opposed twin cylinder powerplant with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often in conjunction with a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Start no. 1) sidecar entire body was produced between 1938 as well as 1941 and supplied exclusively to the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and finally replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was to get the only remnant to reside in beyond the destruction connected with war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production from the late 1940s, it chose to recycle the KS600's motor to help power the KS601 along with few modifications. The Zündapp K800 acquired unit construction, flat-four engines with canal drive (a format adopted by Honda to the Gold Wing in 1974) and were the only 4-cylinder machines used because of the German armed forces within WWII.

After WWII this company transitioned to smaller machines, notably the "Bella" electric motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine due to the type. From 1957 to 1958 the business also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the business moved from Nuremberg to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed numerous new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp is still running a business, but makes Honda centered 4-stroke motorcycles and electric powered mopeds.Zündapp also had the technical collaboration with Royal Enfield (India) to make mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory has been built at Ranipet near Chennai in the early 1980s to create small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus and also the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (based on Zündapp KS175) was introduced being a performance motorcycle.
