Zündapp was a major German motorcycle manufacturer created in 1917 in Nuremberg simply by Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG as well as the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Gary. m. b. H. " as a manufacturer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau can be German for Igniter as well as Apparatus). The 1st Zündapp motorcycle was your model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle pertaining to everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was manufactured in large series. Zündapp's history of weighty motorcycles began in 1933 using the K-series. The "K" refers to any type of drivetrain that these models used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft with two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then the novelty). The series encompassed versions from 200 to 300 cc displacement and was an essential success, increasing Zündapp's market share in Germany from 5% inside 1931 to 18% with 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hewlett packard (21 kW) horizontally opposed twin cylinder generator with overhead valves displacing 597 closed circuit (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often along with a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Trunk no. 1) sidecar entire body was produced between 1938 as well as 1941 and supplied exclusively to the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and at last replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was being the only remnant to live beyond the destruction involving war. Coming from 1931 Ferdinand Porsche as well as Zündapp developed the prototype Vehicle für Jedermann ("car intended for everyone"), which was the very first time that the name Volkswagen has been used. After WWII this company transitioned to smaller equipment, notably the "Bella" powerplant scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine to its type. In 1951 Zündapp released the final of its heavy street bike models, but one of its most famous: the KS601 (your "green elephant") which has a 598 cc two-cylinder powerplant. From 1957 to 1958 this company also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar.In 1958 the business moved from Nuremberg in order to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed several new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines in support of produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some achievement in motorsports with biker André Malherbe winning this 125cc European motocross competition in 1973 and again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds distributed well, but later sales dropped and in 1984 the corporation went bankrupt and closed.

As soon as the bankruptcy, the entire production range and intellectual properties was bought by Xunda Motor Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bicycles from 1987 till the first 1990s. Zündapp is still operational, but makes Honda based 4-stroke motorcycles and electric powered mopeds.Zündapp also had a technical collaboration with Regal Enfield (India) to create mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory seemed to be built at Ranipet near Chennai inside the early 1980s to production small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Bullet. Enfield launched two 50 cc motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus as well as the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (according to Zündapp KS175) was introduced like a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake as well as a sleeveless hard chromed cyndrical tube barrel, all were a first with a motorcycle in that country.
