Zündapp was a serious German motorcycle manufacturer set up in 1917 in Nuremberg by simply Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG along with the machine tool manufacturer Thiel beneath name "Zünder- und Apparatebau Grams. m. b. H. " as a company of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau can be German for Igniter as well as Apparatus). In 1919, as the demand with regard to weapons parts declined after WWI, Neumeyer became the sole proprietor from the company, and two years later he diversified into your construction of motorcycles.Following WWII, Zündapp expanded into the microcar, moped and Scooter (motorcycle) markets. The company collapsed inside 1984.Zuendap. biz markets markets bike and electric bicycles when using the Zundapp name and emblem. while Zuendapp.com markets "enduro-sport" motorcycles under the Zundapp brand.

The very first Zündapp motorcycle was the model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle regarding everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was produced in large series. Zündapp's history of major motorcycles began in 1933 with the K-series. The "K" refers to the sort of drivetrain that these types used, Kardanantrieb, meaning enclosed driveshaft having two universal joints. Zündapp introduced the enclosed crankcase (then the novelty). The series encompassed versions from 200 to 400 cc displacement and was a serious success, increasing Zündapp's market talk about in Germany from 5% in 1931 to 18% within 1937.The Zündapp KS600, first released in 1938, had a 28 hewlett packard (21 kW) flat opposed twin cylinder engine with overhead valves displacing 597 cc (36. 4 cu in). The KS600 was often as well as a Steib sidecar, the BW38 (Beiwagen 1938). The BW38, fitted with the B1 (Footwear no. 1) sidecar system was produced between 1938 and also 1941 and supplied exclusively to the Wehrmacht. While the KS600 was discontinued and at last replaced by the purpose-built KS750, its motor was to become the only remnant to call home beyond the destruction involving war. When Zündapp returned to motorcycle production in the late 1940s, it chose to recycle the KS600's motor to help power the KS601 using few modifications. The Zündapp K800 acquired unit construction, flat-four engines with base drive (a format adopted by Honda for your Gold Wing in 1974) and were the only real 4-cylinder machines used with the German armed forces in WWII.

Coming from 1931 Ferdinand Porsche along with Zündapp developed the prototype Auto für Jedermann ("car with regard to everyone"), which was the first-time the name Volkswagen seemed to be used. Porsche preferred the 4-cylinder smooth engine, but Zündapp used the water-cooled 5-cylinder radial powerplant. In 1932 three prototypes were being running. All three cars were lost in the war, the last in some sort of 1945 Stuttgart bombing raid. From 1936 to 1938 Zündapp generated the KKS500 model. This was the first Zündapp using a foot gear change, and 170 examples were being built. From 1940 onward Zündapp produced a lot more than 18, 000 units of the actual Zündapp KS 750. This is a sidecar outfit having a driven side wheel and a locking differential, supplied to the The german language Wehrmacht.Zündapp also made aircraft engines such as the 9-092, which was used throughout light aircraft, including the Brunswick LF-1 Zaunkönig (1942) belly initio trainer aircraft.

After WWII this company transitioned to smaller products, notably the "Bella" electric motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine for its type. In 1951 Zündapp released a final of its heavy street motorcycle models, but one of its most famous: the KS601 (the actual "green elephant") that has a 598 cc two-cylinder motor. From 1957 to 1958 the corporation also produced the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1958 the corporation moved from Nuremberg in order to Munich. Subsequently, the company developed various new smaller models, discontinued the development of four-stroke engines and only produced two-stroke models. Zündapp experienced some achievement in motorsports with riders André Malherbe winning the actual 125cc European motocross championships in 1973 and all over again in 1974. Initially, Zündapp scooters and mopeds offered well, but later sales dropped and in 1984 the corporation went bankrupt and finished.

Following bankruptcy, the entire production range and intellectual properties has been bought by Xunda Motor Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp motorcycles from 1987 till their early 1990s. Zündapp is still in business, but makes Honda centered 4-stroke motorcycles and electric mopeds.Zündapp also had a technical collaboration with Royal Enfield (India) to develop mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory seemed to be built at Ranipet near Chennai from the early 1980s to produce small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered along with their flagship Royal Enfield Topic. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus plus the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (dependant on Zündapp KS175) was introduced as being a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake as well as a sleeveless hard chromed storage container barrel, all were a first using a motorcycle in that region.
