Zündapp was a major German motorcycle manufacturer set up in 1917 in Nuremberg through Fritz Neumeyer, together with the Friedrich Krupp AG and the machine tool manufacturer Thiel within the name "Zünder- und Apparatebau H. m. b. H. " as a developer of detonators (Zünder- und Apparatebau is actually German for Igniter as well as Apparatus). The initial Zündapp motorcycle was the model Z22 in 1921. This was the Motorrad für Jedermann ("motorcycle with regard to everyone"), a simple, reliable design that was produced in large series. Zündapp's history of major motorcycles began in 1933 with all the K-series. After WWII the organization transitioned to smaller equipment, notably the "Bella" electric motor scooter, which was a relatively heavy machine due to the type. As soon as the bankruptcy, the entire production range and intellectual properties has been bought by Xunda Motor Co., Tianjin, China. They produced small Zündapp bikes from 1987 till their early 1990s. Zündapp is still running a business, but makes Honda centered 4-stroke motorcycles and energy mopeds.Zündapp also had a technical collaboration with Royal Enfield (India) to develop mopeds and motorcycles. A dedicated factory was built at Ranipet near Chennai from the early 1980s to manufacture small, lightweight two-stroke motorcycles to be offered with their flagship Royal Enfield Bullet. Enfield launched two 50 closed circuit motorcycles first, the step-thru Silver Plus along with the 3-speed Explorer motorcycle. Later, 175 cc Enfield Fury (according to Zündapp KS175) was introduced to be a performance motorcycle. It had 5-speed gearbox, a hydraulic Brembo disc brake as well as a sleeveless hard chromed cyndrical tube barrel, all were a first over a motorcycle in that region.
